Corrections & Retractions

Balkanistic Worlds is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record.

Corrections

A correction may be published when an error in a published article affects the accuracy or clarity of the scholarly record but does not invalidate the main findings or conclusions.

Corrections are linked to the original article and clearly identify the nature of the change.

Retractions

An article may be retracted when there is reliable evidence that its findings or publication record are seriously compromised. Reasons may include:

  • major errors that invalidate the findings;

  • plagiarism or substantial duplication;

  • fabrication or falsification of data;

  • serious ethical violations;

  • other forms of significant publication misconduct.

Retractions are clearly identified and remain linked to the original publication in order to preserve the scholarly record.

Expressions of Concern

Where serious concerns have been raised but an investigation has not yet reached a final conclusion, the journal may publish an Expression of Concern.

All correction and retraction decisions are handled in accordance with applicable COPE guidance.
