Abstract

The author connects the issue of canonizations and the relationship between Orthodox Church and state with the question of religious and national identity in Bulgaria and Serbia, offering the reader a profound and multilayered analysis of the phenomenon of the “encounter with the saint” The methodology, which combines his-torical sources with fieldwork and an analytical presentation of religious practice, provides rich material for further research into the Orthodox tradition and Balkan history.
